About U.G.M Shelter Clinics (Calvert Shelter / Center of Hope Shelter)
The Union Gospel Mission (UGM) Shelter Clinics are student-run free clinics run in partnership with UT Southwestern’s Department of Family and Community Medicine. These clinics serve residents of UGM’s two Dallas shelter locations: Calvert Place for men and Center of Hope for women and children. The goal is to provide consistent, compassionate primary care to people experiencing homelessness who often face barriers to accessing regular medical services.
Services Provided
The UGM Shelter Clinics offer free primary and preventive medical care on-site at the shelters. Services include lab testing (such as HbA1c for diabetes and metabolic panels), HIV testing, and basic medication management (depending on drug availability). Common diagnoses treated at these clinics are high blood pressure (HTN), respiratory infections, GERD, headaches, and minor wounds. At the Center of Hope, they also serve pediatric and gynecological health needs, including routine child vaccines and women’s health.
Additionally, a Smoking Cessation Clinic runs at each shelter. (These clinics are not general public free clinics — they are intended for people who are staying in (or affiliated with) the UGM shelters).
